The hidden cost of empty promises

We have all felt it. You pull into the service station, look at the board, and feel that familiar knot of frustration tighten in your stomach. The price at the bowser has spiked again. It is not just a nuisance. It is a direct hit to the household budget of every working family in Western Australia. These international price shocks are not an accident. They are a vulnerability. We rely on global supply chains that care very little about the cost of living here in our own backyard.

As a medical doctor, I learned that waiting for the symptoms to resolve themselves is rarely a winning strategy. You diagnose the root cause and you treat it. Right now, the root cause of our energy pain is a dangerous dependence on foreign oil. We are leaving our economic stability in the hands of distant powers that frequently tip the world toward instability.

The doctor sees a better way forward

In my years as a GP, I never saw a patient cured by red tape or by hoping that market forces would magically fix a chronic condition. We need a proactive, science-led approach. We have the land, the expertise, and the intellectual capacity to process our own resources. When we talk about biofuels, particularly those from crops like hemp, we are talking about energy sovereignty. We are talking about keeping jobs, revenue, and security within our borders.

While I delve into the nitty-gritty of policy, I love sharing these discussions with those who care about the future of our state. If you enjoy seeing the evidence behind the headlines, please subscribe to my YouTube channel and join the conversation.

Seeking answers in the House

I recently took this frustration to the Legislative Council. I asked the government whether they intended to merely observe the market or act with the urgency this crisis demands. The response was a mention of a forthcoming strategy. It is a start, but we have heard promises of strategies before. A strategy in a drawer does not lower the price of petrol.

The forward-thinkers among us know the truth. We cannot afford to be passive observers of our own decline. We need a serious, comprehensive approach to biofuels that treats local production as an essential pillar of our economy. You can review the details of my query regarding energy and biofuels in Parliament. If you are tired of the status quo and ready for evidence-based reform, I invite you to join Legalise Cannabis WA and help us build a smarter, more secure future for all Western Australians.
